| I was offered a job in Beidaihe (the "summer capital", not far from Beijing), and was wondering if anyone has been there, and can tell me what it's like? How large is the population? Thanks |

It is quite a nice city by the coast. Most people head to that area to visit the "head of the dragon" which is where the great wall meets the sea. There is a combo of 3 cities within minutes of each other: Beidahe, Qinhuandao, and another whose name I can't remember.
The population is not that big but for more precise information, try to PM voldemort. He teaches no too far away in Qinhuandao. |

Hey there, sure I teach in Qinhuangdao. Well actually I teach between the two towns. Beidaihe itself is a very small town, with very little happening there. As far as I know there are no Bars or Western conveniences. Most of the the people from Beidaihe catch the bus into Qinhuangdao (about 30 minutes) and do all their shopping.
There really is a lot to see here, for example the great wall. The towns are very clean, no litter on the streets, not too many beggars. The people are friendly. Prices can be a little high, but this is a tourist hot-spot so it can be expected. All in all there are about 15 foreigners here. (I know this because we were all invited to a Spring festival party). The population is about 1 million for all the towns combined.
Perhaps you would like to PM me and tell me about the school you intend to work with. Maybe I could give you a heads up. |
