I finally made it to Japan! I arrived on March 10th and have been having a fantastic time in Kita-koshigaya. I leave for Nagoya on March 30th on the Shinkansen (bullet train). I stay there for 2 weeks and then I am off to Matsuyama! I am so excited about teaching there. Everything is arranged for me! YAH!!
My question is how to ship my luggage from Tokyo to Nagoya. The company has asked me to bring a small bag on the train and ship my big bag to Nagoya. Don't worry, I have checked it all out and it is not some scam. I just don't know how to ship something to another city. Do I use the postoffice? The company will pay me back for the charges.
Thank you all!!

Just how big is your "big bag"? If you're talking a suitcase then it can be carried along with you. If you are talking a number of suitcases (or that kind of volume) I would look into a purolator such as "kuroneko yamato" (black cat) or such.

Hey there. I have a smaller bag to bring on the train, but the big bag is quite tall. It does have wheels, but that is beside the point. My employeer has asked all employees to ship their larger luggage to the school. This is because there are a lot of stairs and smaller transportation we have to take when we first get there. The employeer will pay us back for the charges as long as we have a recipt.
Thank you for the info though. Smile

Yamato's Kuroneko (Black Cat) can be done from a nearby 7/11.

You fill out the paperwork there, leave your luggage and Kuroneko will pick it up from the 7/11 and will deliver it to the destination in a couple of days.

I've heard that Sagawa is even cheaper than Kuroneko.

The post office is okay but they do have a size limit for things too large.

If you want to have them p/u from your place then you'll have to call them directly.

By the way, Matsuyama's a nice place. You'll like it there.

Good advice, Speed. Yes, take your bag to the nearest convenience store or any other place nearer with a "black cat" sign posted outside. Bring along a Japanese friend to help you out filling out the forms which will contain your forwarding address. Ask for a "ryoshusho" with your company's name written on it (this is what you school will need as a receipt". Now you're all set.
