After working in the UK with short summer holiday postings in Europe have returned to Melbourne and currently picking up casual weeks here and there. Don't like the weather, or the thought of taking on long term work committments. Have heard that some International Schools take on staff for short term contracts and provide accommodation. Particularly interested in the Shanghai area or southern China. Can airfares be negotiated? Does the school arrange Visa?
Originally from South Africa, have experienced a low level of racism in some European postings - what advice for China? |

You seem to have a curious sense of "short term" - schools tend to think in one-year terms! |

I tend to agree with Roger one this one.
Hate to be the one that says it but their are too many back packers here polluting the job market for those of us that make teaching a career. It is difficult enough for us that live and work here without people wanting to come over and take our summer jobs away from us, take the lower salary and do nothing but play games in class.
Wales, if you are serious about working here you must think about signing a 1 year contract, doing a TEFL course and having a degree. Also you must be dedicated to providing your students with an education. Be prepared to live in a dirty old, 7th floor apartment, be treated like a chocolate fireguard and have no life of your own.
Is China really the place for you?? |
