Eid Mubarak to one and all.

Things look better now that I am headed for my two week holiday for Eid Al-Fitr, or Sheker Bayram as it is called in my neck of the woods.

Despite the security situation things are not bad. Here I am in my large house, rent-free and utilities all paid bu my employer. I am listening to Haydn's Concertos. I have no more teaching. And I have two weeks holidays with pay.

Maybe I will stay for another year ! (THAT is the way this place gets you hooked !)

Dear scot47,
May I suggest - in a slight paraphrase of a sentence we are both well acquainted with - that you: " Take it one year at a time"?
Regards,
John

Hey Scot

Eid break starts in the middle of Ramadhan?? The rest of the Muslim world doesn't start their break until about the 23rd or so. Most of them will have classes re-starting on the 29. When do yours start again? It looks as if you get more like 3 weeks off!! As you say, therein lies the hook---

One day at a time - a good way to run one's life even if you are just friends of some of Bill's friends. Smile

Where I teach the last day of classes is 12 November. We resume on 30 November.

Actually trying to teach in Ramadan is a bit of joke,"Teacherteacher, we are fasting !"

I can relate to that one, always having had to teach through the whole month elsewhere.

My favorite line from the students came from one my first classes in Egypt. When they complained about homework, I replied that I knew that they were up all night, so they could fit it in somewhere. One of the girls said, 'but Miss, we have to watch television.' I said, 'Really? Have to? Is that in the Quran? I hadn't heard about that rule.' The whole class laughed. I told her that if she could show me which Surah specified this, I would certainly stop giving homework, but until then we would keep working.

Have a good trip north!! Hope it's not too cold for you up there. Smile
