Ok, where to begin........
Worked for a private school in Shanghai. After two months in-country got sent to Zhengzhou in Henan. Know the school doesnt have the proper certificates to employ me, but willing to give it a shot. Schlepped around like a monkey. Was actually told to my face that me being white was more important than my teaching ability......
Principal convinces some rich Bi-atch in the small city of Pingdingshan to open a school. Blantently lies to her so she would get on-board (sure, you'll have 1,000 students in a month!!!). At this time I begin to butt heads with the pricipal in Zhengzhou. Deciding im not worth the trouble, she sells me to the principal in pingdingshan. City makes me sick....mentally and physically. Get food poisoning...in the hospital for ten days. Three weeks later become the only thing that is keeping the school afloat, but still impossible to to meet the expectations. In retaliation, director from Zhengzhou suggests the for the days I was out with food poisoning I should be fined for three days (not in contract). Apartment gets broken into, fights with the teachers and secretaries, etc., etc., etc.
After doing the math,, discover that I had paid almost 10,000RMB to work in Pingdingsh%@ in two months. Tell the principal I want out. She raids my crib and steals my residency permit and visa. Says if I quit, sending them back to the psb....will be in a world of poo if I try to leave the country w/o a visa.
So this is what I know.
They CAN get me into trouble by throwing away my visa. Thats the least of my worries.
Have a decent rap sheet on them. Including......
Refusal of payment of FT's.
Illegally having FT in school which legally cant have them.
Tax evasion.
So the questions are....
1. If they submit my visa/ RP, will I get into trouble if I get another job and apply again?
2. If they were bluffing and dont send in my visa, is it possible to have two, or will that cause problems?
3. Could I just go and get another copy of the aforesaid documents from shanghai? They are in my name...
4. How much trouble can I get them in?
The calm side of me says "just leave and be done with it.". The a@@hole, vindictive side of me is saying "might as well get 'em for all their bulls@$t"
need answers to my problems ASAP.

Sounds like wild west in China, but yes, it does sometimes happen the way some posters report.
But your account leaves more questions unanswered than you have attempted to ask: what kind of visa were you holding when you were sent to Zhengzhou? Were you legal in your first place of work? Did you sign any binding document, undergo a medical examination? Where did you get your visa? How long is it valid? Release letter(s)? How long been in the PR of C? |

I think we are missing something here.

If somebody has stolen your passport (which contains your visa), you must contact your Embassy.
The worst this school can do to you is to cancel your resident permit. The PSB will then issue you with a 7 day tourist visa with which you should leave the country and try again. Also they may very well ruin your reputation in that province, no big deal if you wish to move into another province.
Be prepared for things to get very messy. |

Some residency permits are now INSIDE your passport (it's like a visa/residency permit combo special) and, of course, you should have your foreign experts certificate (the little red booklet). If they have truly stolen your passport with your visa inside (and/or your residency permit), my guess is that would be a criminal act (breaking and entering notwithstanding) that your embassy would not look kindly upon. Now, how to prove it is a whole 'nother ballgame, but I echo the advise of contacting your embassy. |

Refuse to teach, get a Chinese assistant and go to the Public Security Bureau. Explain to them what is going on, your res and passport are LEGAL documents that you are required to have in China.
At this point refuse to work unless they pay you what they owe you and one month in advance because they breached the contract and your trust. Report them to www.eslschoolreview.com or www.chinaschoolreview.org
If you click the arbitration button, or investigation button, they will contact you for details and to decide what to do, then they will contact the school and put pressure on the school.

If you are in China legally and someone broke in and stole your visa/documents-
1. Notify your embassy
2. Go to the PSB and report the theft
3. Do notify the websites quoted above
4. Stop working and hold them to the contract you signed
However, if you switched schools illegally and without switching your residence permit over to that school it is a different story and i have no advice to give you. it is generally illegal to work for a different school than the one with which you signed your contract and which is listed in your residence permit. Your account is a little vague in that respect and I am not sure whether you working at that school was legal.
Good luck-I hope you won't need it

Thanks for all the advice guys. i did what you said. Luckily, I have a Nepalese doctor friend who's lived here for about five years. He knows a lot of police. Well after a nice dinner and a couple of bottles of baijiao, they agreed to give me a hand. got my books back, and found a new job. Gotta do the visa process all over again, but its better than being worried all the time.
peace
