How everybody,
I am trying to figure out how much money I'll need to get by and travel around Vietnam before I start work.
How much would you recommend I plan on spending?
I have heard 10$ a day is enough is this true? It is hard to believe.

Right now $10US will get you about 157,000 dong. If you stay at a guest house with no air con (very possible at this time of year) you are still looking at a minimum of 60,000d per day on that alone. You could eat three meals and only spend another 30,000d ... maybe, but I think $10 is a bit low.
I'd say plan on at least $15US/day and being very well disciplined. Good luck. |

I would concur with Micro. $10 a day is possible in a rural area. $15 per day is more in the realm of what you would need to have a basic level of comfort.
Take care,

Remember that you will likely meet some fellow travelers/people, and you may want to go out and eat and have a couple of beers/drinks.
Also, you will be traveling and paying for transportation and seeing the sights.
10 dollars US seems constraining. |

Hi, I just returned from travelling in Vietnam for a month. I definitely had many $10 or less days but also many more expensive days. I stayed in decent places for $3-5 a night and ate very well for very cheap. In Hanoi and HCMC this would be very difficult though, count on spending $7-12 on hotel room alone. It is often cheaper to just do the organized tour thing for certain areas. Shop around a bit when buying train and bus tickets, there can be a big difference in price for the exact same thing just from different tour companies.
Have fun, I loved it there! |
