I just came from a 2 day visa run in Fukuoka. I'm going on my 3rd year here in Korea, and would like to make the move to Japan. I've scoured the discussions here but have just a couple of basic questions.
1) Are NOVA and AEON reputable companies as far as being honest, helping with housing, etc?
2) Is there a preferable time that most schools start hiring? In Korea, it's late Feb/early March.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks all

I have not heard of AEGIS.
NOVA is reputable. It is the largest chain conversation school in Japan. Housing is usually set up so that you share with other teachers and pay around 70,000 yen/month including utilities.
Most schools start hiring about the same time in Japan. Terms begin in April, usually. |

Thanks. What's the pay for Nova? Is there an option to get your own place? |

starting pay at NOVA is said to be 220,000 yen a month for new hires though the 'standard' pay is 250,000 yen a month, which has recently gone down.
You are not required to rent NOVA housing, though most new teachers dont have the key money required to rent their own apartments. Expect to pay 4-5 months rent up front if you rent your own non-NOVA apartment. You will also need to furnish it as well, as apartments here come without a stick of furniture, while NOVA apartments are fully furnished.

A very well written and entertaining link. Is it yours? I have experienced most of those things in the essay, except for the docking of hours. Most Koreans don't want to share their money so they start independent academies which allow for a bit of flexibility, as opposed to a corporation. I checked some of the other links to other schools like Aeon but the only interview offices are in US, Europe and Australia. Would I have to go back home to the US to do an interview? Anyone experienced that? |
