Hi Forum... My friend and I are thinking of coming to Turkey in August during the school vacation. We're still just thinking about it though... It depends on how cheaply we can do it. I know I'd like to spend about a week in Istanbul and some time by the beach... The rest of the time I don't know yet.
Anyway, I was wondering, does the price of accomodation go up drastically in August? How cheaply can we get a basic room? Is it possible to find something around the US$30 mark for two people? Is it easy to find accomodation at that time or is it better to book in advance?

Unless things have changed drastically since 2004 (probably not) it should not be a problem to find places in that price range....
The choice of 'pensions' and cheap hotels in Turkey is enormous, plus there are plenty of hostels in areas where tourists go.
There should be plenty of rooms (for two) in the $20 dollar or night price range or less.
Just get a copy of the "Lonely Planet" or "Guide du Routard" and you are set.
Also post on "Lonely Planet Thorn Tree" for quasi immediate answers to your questions. They are an indispensable resource for backpackers.
