Hi guys,
I'm a bit of a n00b on the boards, suffice to say I've just done a Trinity TESOL course, was going to China but had a change of heart and chosen to go to Thailand.
My problem is that I have 2 potential jobs (both have been offered) and I can't decide which to go to.
Job 1: 30k Baht a month, Find ur own accom (7 days in their place first), 15k baht bonus at the end and in Bangkok (unsure about whether they pay for flights).
Its for Fun Language (see post a bit below about it) meaning I get provided with all my lesson plans etc.
Job 2: 28k Baht a month, find ur accom, 25k bonus at the end and flight there paid for. Its in Nakhon Sri Thrammarat (blatent spelling mistake there, far south TL basically).
This is only 20hrs a week 7 of which are teaching computers to the kids.
I'm torn, I have a mate in Bangkok and this is my first experience living outside of the UK. I'm thinking i'll go for the first one and mebbe look for other jobs after if it turns out i'm being stiffed on the pay. I'm also hoping to do private tuition and figure that demand for it will be higher in Bangkok.
Can any one help me decide, for a guy in his early 20s which sounds like the more fun option?
Thanks and see u the end of april!

Decisions, decisions.
OK - In terms of offered salary, neither option is GREAT --- but faced with those 2 choices I'd probably opt for Bangkok simply 'cuz there's more to see & do here. Sounds like you have your foot in the door @ Fun Language ...
and a friend in Bangkok who can show you around a little, which is cool.
imho - you will find better offers in Bangkok (closer to 40K) after you get here and make some contacts.
Good luck n00b!
PS: For a little background on Nakhon Si Thammarat:

On a sidenote: There's no need to be paranoid, but --- this town is located in the area of Southern Thailand where the Thai government has been fighting sporadically with Islamic separatists. Personally, it wouldn't stop me from going there, but it's something to consider when weighing up the pros & cons. Job 1: not too bad money for a newbie (if they really do pay for flights that would be great, but it's highly unlikely). Bangkok is a megacity, though you won't get the best out of it on a teacher's salary.
Job 2: 28k is plenty of money for Nakhon si Thammarat (which is nowhere near where the rebels are). It's a pretty small town, where the most exciting thing to do is to visit the temples. |

insanity is right.
The immediate conflict area of southern Thailand includes:
Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla, located in the southern tip of Thailand near the border with Malaysia.
Nakhon Si Thammarat is roughly 160 km north of Songkhla.
Here's a decent map of the provinces that shows exactly what's where:
