I need your employer to answer these 11 questions
1. What type of training and experience do you look for when you hire a TESOL teacher?
2. I am planing on taking the Global TESOL College's basic course, is this type of training required by your school
3. I am planning on taking this course at the Global TESOL College, are you familiar with this training ? Is there a another type of course that would be better suited for your school? If so could you describe it?
4. What skill and abilities do you look for?
5. Is there anything else you look for in a teacher for this position?
6 . What type of duties would Will be doing.
7. What is the starting salary and the salary range for a TESOL teacher? Depends on whether it's private or public.
8. How many people have you hired with these skills in the past years?
9. what are the prospects with you school in the future? (are you looking
to hire?
10. Is the work in your company full time, part time contract, seasonal, on call?
10 Is there any other schools that you recommend that I speak to?
Thank you to all who respond |

Your title should read 'get', not 'getting'.
Perhaps you could explain the point of the post again? I simply don't get it. |

What is this for, exactly? Why not ask employers directly? Your request was a bit blunt, with no explanations to help us.

It sounds like he might be trying to get employment insurance or welfare to fund a work re-training course. |

Michael a bit of advice if you want to get a response in addition to the comments below.
1. Explain who you are, why you want the information and what you will do with the data. Alot of questions are personal information. Write a short covering paragraph. Dont expect people to make any assumptions or take your word for it. The post sounds like you want people to make up your mind for you on a TESOL course based on the responses you get.
2. Target your audience. Who are the people you are asking? Conversation school, high school, elementary school kids? Which country do you want responses from? Schools and employers and hiring requirements are different in different countries.
In my country no one has even heard of Global TESOL, nor is it needed to geta job here
3. Proofread your questions. No one will take you seriously if you can not even spell correctly.
4. Have a format that makes it easy for people to answer questions. In this one people have to type in responses and then you have to tabulate each one and make sense of it. People will not answer each and every question.
I suggest you develop a survey questionnaire using an online survey template like http://www.surveymonkey.com you write up the questions, choose a method of responding and then post a link. People then just follow the prompts. people here are too busy to fill in a survey that is riddled with errors and lacks reliability and credibility.
Lastly your title has nothing to do with what you are asking people to do for you. What does getting funding have to do with what the course is like?

If you want my employer to answer this, will you first translate it into Japanese?
Secondly, most of our employers are too busy to answer questionaires from people we don't know. |

Global TESOL's program does not offer supervised teaching practice. This kind of certification is sometimes not accepted by employers, though acceptance may vary dependent on where you want to go.
Ultimately, however, if you are on such a financial shoestring that you need some kind of outside funding to pay for your course, DON'T GO ABROAD!! It's really vital to have three or four thousands Canadian saved up, above your travel expenses, when you leave the country. Sure, a few countries may REIMBURSE your airfare if you finish a contract, and some places provide housing. But you are going to have expenses - and any little piece of bad luck can have huge consequences when you are far from family and friends.
Stay home, work at whatever, save up - do a reputable course somewhere that lasts at least 30 days ON SITE, with supervised teaching practice. If you seriously want even an entry-level position teaching English, you need this at minimum. |

First I am very sorry to everyone for being so blunt. I am trying to get employment insurance to pay for a TESL course, the questions that I posted are required to get the funding for the course. I don't want anyone to make up there mind I need this info to get the funding for the course. I will take the info and give it to the training society so I can get the funding. My target audience is elementary schools. What I am told is that the questions are for market research, I was told to find potential employers and ask them these questions.
I am Micheal Jezersek 23 I live in Canada, British Columbia. I want to get into teaching English, I have student loan so I can't get a degree .I am settling for some local TESL courses in hopes that I can pay off my student loan and get a B.A.
Gordon I will work on translating it into Japanese. I see the point about credibility. It sounds odd you saying to your employer "Some guy on the internet wants you to fill out there questions" I now understand please accept my apology.
Thank you to everyone for the great advice, I will continue to work on my spelling and grammar.

Michael,
you would probably be better off contacting some language schools in your city as they would be the ones hiring teachers. Many employers here do not speak good English or have access to the Internet.
With no degree you would not be able to work in many countries, so a Japanese translation is probably unnecessary.
When you say target audience do you mean principals of elementary schools? In many foreign countries elementary teachers do not speak English and we work here as assistant language teachers.
I would recommend that you concentrate on getting your degree than a TESL course, as 1. you need a degree for the work visa and 2. you can get hired in many countries without having any TESL certificate or training. Things like Global TESOL are icing on the cake and money spinners for the people who run them. |

I don't understand. You have a student loan so you cannot be a student? You want a government area (one designed as a safety net for people temporarily between jobs) to pay for training through a private institution that has not been accepted by the government of your province, any other province, or the federal government of the country as meeting the minimum requirements to teach ESL in the country. But that's okay, because you want to teach EFL in elementary schools overseas. Except that you have no start-up money and lack the single most important thing for obtaining a job overseas that would allow you to pay back loans- a degree.
You can get a student loan while still owing on a previous student loan. If you couldn't, then a lot of Humanities areas degree-holders wouldn't be able to get into any sort of professional training at government accredited colleges (as in not private institutions, but the provincial colleges) or universities. Nor would they be able to do graduate studies at universities.
I think you need to research this field a bit more. Most people get any job they can and then pay for training themselves (that's why people become really angry if they take training that doesn't get them very far). Or if they go with a university or provincial college training, they can get provincial student assistance. However, university and provincial college TESL certificates normally take a year, and at least in Ontario, require a degree to be conferred before handing you the certificate (some programmes can run concurrently with a degree, some run consecutive to the degree). You can use the time to research the field. TESL Canada would be a good place to start.
http://www.tesl.ca/
This site will tell you courses that are approved so you can look into each one. There are links for each provincial branch (TESL Ontario, where I'm from, BC TEAL for BC etc)
