Does anybody know something about Istek in Istanbul?

There is liable to be loads of info about Istek Vakfi because they have a number of schools and have been around for ages. If you want to hear some anecdotes about them, let me know. But in one sentence it is holding pen for wealthy kids who will all get their diploma and owned by the despised Bedrettin who charges the parents the earth but pays the foreign teachers 6-750 pounds a month.

I have a friend at the Acibadem branch primary school, and that seems to be ok for him. I interviewed at the Florya branch for what was claimed to be a secondary school job, 17 and 18 year olds. However, in the interview, she kept talking about how they needed kindergarten and primary school teachers, and that I should expect to teach that as well. I told her several times that I had no experience, training, or interest in children. I even told her that I don't particularly like children, but she just said, 'Oh, you'll learn as you go. It's really fun.' By the end of the interview I had the sense they'd never planned on hiring a secondary school teacher at all. The whole thing was a bit strange, as interviews here often are.

Needless to say, I moved on...

Don't listen to the general chat. Each school is different and it all depends on the Dep head. I was out at Badgat cad Istek for two years. Kids where tough but the school was quiet good.
I left because I wanted cash instead of housing(brought my own place).
If they offered me a job today I would go back. Great Dep head at the school.
Can't say the same for the others. I was told that the head at Kartal was right cow.
So its up to the school.
No problems with money thou.

That's what I mean-- as I said, I've heard mostly only good things about the Istek in Acibadem, but I was suspicious of the Florya branch for wanting to hire a teacher who doesn't like or know about children for their primary school (they did want me, by the way-- called back a couple of times to try to convince me...).

Thanks, this already helps. Can anybody tell me what to expect from the free accommodation they offer? And how much tax I will have to pay?

i did hear that the money wasn't too good and that the reputation of the school wasn't as good as it used to be...kids are crap pretty well everywhere though so don't let that scare you off...
