When does HS/college hiring for the fall semester start?

I notice that a few schools are posting want ads for positions to start immediately. When do high schools and colleges start recruiting for the autumn study period?

I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that high schools and colleges do have some kind of "fall semester" or "fall quarter." How many months in advance do they start hiring for the fall?
