Anyone recently done a video interview for HCT posts? I am a practical littleoldlady and don't really quote theories. BTW this is for a faculty post. Any tips gratefully received. |

Is it for EFL or content? Few on here have probably done an interview for a content course?

Must be all that knitting that keeps your upper body in tip top shape
The one thing I hated about the video interview is that you are on one TV and the interviewers are on one right beside it. I kept looking at myself to see what I was doing instead of maintaining "eye contact" God, I hope they burned that tape! |

I didn't find the interview process to be much different than any other job interview I've ever had.
And I didn't get to touch the technology - the centre that I went to for the interview handled all the loose wires and microphones etc. All I had to do was sit back and "relax" |

Linguist,
My interview is end of next week video conference not skype but I will post afterwards. I am told that for skype interviews, check your equipment - Stop giggling! I MEAN microphone, speakers etc. before you start. Do you need a webcam? |

They must be saving lots of money if they are starting to use Skype for their video conferences.
When I downloaded Skype onto my new laptop that has a built in webcam, it automatically hooked it up. But, that is one part of my equipment that I have not only never used, but never checked.

The center in Asia where I did my video interview was staffed with incompetents. Half the interview time was taken up with them futzing with technology. I'd figured out that they'd punched the wrong numbers into the receiver box, copied wrong from the fax'd instructions. I meekly pointed this out to them, but they ignored me. So I got it going as soon as they'd given up and left the room for tea!
The interview ended up being a success, despite what was happening around the process.
I spent the whole time thinking "Skype or MSN would be an advance over this..." - I think in this day and age, the formal and expensive ISDN teleconferencing setup is totally obsolete. They could look at it as a competency test. If a teacher candidate can't rig up a webcam and mic to a workable internet connection, perhaps they might have trouble working at an institution with "Technology" in its title. |

Forget skype, I'm going to master the skill of training carrier pigeons to deliver my messages. |
