On this date in 1919, Emiliano Zapata--the only revolutionary leader to see agrarian reform AND education as the twin locomotives of development--was assassinated in Chinameca, Morelos.
The guy who engineered his assassination for Venustiano Carranza and Pablo Gonz�les, Jes�s Guajardo, received a bonus of 500 pesos and a military promotion.
On April 7, 2005, the transition to democracy was truncated in Mexico with the vote to strip the mayor of Mexico City of his immunity because he is the leading candidate to become president of the republic in 2006.
We don't know how much money is involved in this transaction, nor who expects to receive political favors because of it. |
