That's mystifying for me! Where was that teacher's replacement? Maybe he sat in the front row with your students?

Actually, no one has ever broken a contract so far as I can remember - small trifles notwithstanding.
But I once lent my ear to a guy who spoke with an authentic Northern American accent (and he had a Canadian green card).
He hired me right away from Shenzhen Shenda English Club for what he said to be new private English classes in a residential area called Lianhuacun.
He said he had been reported on in the local media, and in point of fact people kept flocking to his training centre to enrol. I saw that with my own eyes.
The offer he made to me sounded pretty tempting although he showed no inclination to sign any binding document nor to sponsor me on a visa.
I accepted his offer as it was one of several jobs I held down at that time; in time, however, he pressed for me to move house "because it is in your interest to be available at short notice" and without having to commute.
I had no idea how his training centre worked: it was his own business and the premises was rented from the estate.
Thus when I took over a flat in that estate I had to enter into an agreement with the landlady, while he acted as my "go-between" or translator.
I had to pay for my own accommodation but considering his supposedly generous offer, I thought it was going to be a piece of cake.

It was not.
Once I was installed in that flat he started jerking me around, cancelling classes or entering me for classes that were inconvenient for me. Within a short time, my income had dwindled to a fraction of what I had had before I had moved to that area.
I became suspicious when I was told I had to pay for my telephone line by myself. He explicitly forbade me from making phone calls from his office "because I can't afford to pay for YOUR calls"...
This went on for about 2 months, and when the end of the second month arrived I hired a truck and moved my belongings back to my previous place.
That guy made himself pretty notorious by peddling the immigration services from two Canadian lawyers based in Hong Kong. I don't know if his training centre folded sooner or later, but fold it certainly did. The name of it: "Bond College" and 'Maple Leaf English CLub". I still have his name-card 9phone numbers in Toronto and Shenzhen).

We have a clause in our contract that states our FAO pays us 90% of our salary while our department pays us 10%. This is in case we miss a class or are constantly late or whatever. The department can deduct a penalty if need be. To date (over 1 1/2 years), I have never received a penalty because I do show up for my classes on time every day.

Suddenly, as of this payday, there has been a "policy" change that now has our department determining 100% of our pay. I don't know how that may affect me as a teacher. I'm only working 13 periods per week this term. My contract states that I am to teach UP TO 18 periods per week. My brand spanking new director made a comment to me the first week after Spring Festival holiday how, since I'm not working 18 periods I will (would? should?) get less pay. I made sure to point out to him that my contract specifically states that I am not penalized if I work less periods due to school scheduling, testing dates, sporting events, etc. etc.

We haven't received our pay yet for March - - I may be worrying for nothing, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
