I have decided to make the move to Taiwan. I will be living in Kaohsiang. I understand that a 60 day visa is optimum. However, the consulate in SF is really hassling me about getting one since I mistakenly stated I was visiting a friend and now cannot come up with a number or address. I have NEVER dealt with a consulate or embassy from another country who creates hassles like the Taiwanese. They act as if I am coming from a third world country. And get this, anyone applying for a Taiwanese visa in SF and who is from aother country is charged $35. For Americans? $100! Is this some sort of punishment for our increasing trade policies with the mainland?
So I have decided to land on a 30 day visa.
Here is the question. Does anyone know how much a puddle-jumper is from Kaohsiang to Loag? If I go on a budget carrier like Far East I assume it is cheap but cannot locate fares. Has anyone taken this route to make a visa run? |

If you don't come on a 60 day visa, you will very likely be making an expensive visa run and 3-5 days to Hong Kong. I don't know what or where Loag is however, I did find Laoag in the Phillipines. I don't know why you would want to go there, but the current price on Far East was 22,800NT. I can fly to LAX for that price.
If your doing a visa run you should go to HK. If you show up with the proper paper work, you will have you ARC two week later. |

The 100 dollars is a game of tit for tat the Taiwanese play with other countries. Taiwanese (and other nationalities) are charged 100 dollars for visas to enter the states. So, Taiwan naturally turned around and charged the same to US citizens.
Try to get the sixty day visa if possible. |

It sounds like you have already locked yourself into a 30 day visa. You're going to end up making a visa run. I found a 7400NT flight from KHH to HK on China Air, round trip. I'd seriously start planning on making a trip to HK. |
