I just wanted to say... I did it!

I received my reply from JET yesterday, and I have been accepted as an ALT.

Now all I have to do is pass a medical exam, so as long as I dont come down with TB (knock on wood) it looks like I'm on my way over July 23rd. Wink

Can't wait to experience what I've only been reading about!

Before you go I suggest you read the book "Importing Diversity: Inside the JET program" by David McConnell which is an in-depth study of the JET program since it started in 1987. Available on Amazon.

To contact or hear about current JETs go to http://www.bigdaikon.com

I could show you another no-holds-barred site about JET but i dont want to put you off your breakfast.

Welcome to the "team" anyway.

I doubt that you have TB - so you're in. Japan has the highest rate of tuberculosis in the industrialized world, which is why they always check for it.

How about that no-holds-barred site Paul?

Yeah PAULH,

Let's lose our breakfast!

I've heard of that book before, but never saw it localy. I'll have to order it. Another related one is called Live and Work in Japan by Vacation Work Press. It is ok, much less focus on JET in that book, however. I read it about a year ago, and reread it the other day... it was basicly like reading through these forums, heh.

Congradulaitons! JET is pretty easy! if you've got your head screwed on right and are flexible you should be able to save some bucks, travel and enjoy yourself in general!

I was in your position 6 years ago! I remeber the phone call like it was yesterday! Wink

Congratulations! I am just completing my 3rd year on the JET programme and will be returning to Canada in July. I have to say that it has been a great experience and you can really have a great time on the JET programme if you appreciate what you have. (I have worked in the EFL field for many years, and I have to say that my job here has been very good to me in terms of great pay, moderate workload, and plenty of time off.) Some of the fresh university grads don't appreciate how good their JET job is until after it's over!
