Just a quick couple questions re: the 60 day visitor visa.
1. How long does it usually take for me to receive acceptance, once I apply?
2. Also, what is the "agent" nonsense on the application? Is this like a guaranteur or does that only apply if I have a job or school in Taiwan?
3. I doubt it, but does Canada have a reciprocal visa agreement with China/taiwan? There is no fee information on the application.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys. |

1. In Bangkok and Hong Kong you put your app in one day and pick your visa'd passport up the next. So don't go on Friday. Also, as with all Chinese-related embassies, everyone shows up before the doors open. So if you don't you'll probably have to wait a few hours just to give that piece of paper to the girl behind the window.
For my application today (I live in Bangkok) they wanted 1) two pictures (anything that's about 1.5 inch by 2 inch seemd to do) 2) 4400THB (about 120USD!!!) 3) proof of finance (copy of my bank book's balance page and face of a credit card did the trick) in addition to the filled in form. Get this ready the day before to save yourself trouble.
2. Only petty fools (like English teachers) actually bother themselves with going to a consulate to get a visa. Real high rollers send a lackey to wait in line and say "oh yes maam, he's just going to visit wink wink". A more polite word for lackey is "agent."
3. To my knowledge, only New Zealand and Oz have any kind of special agreements with Taiwan -- and I'm sure it's not one that excludes fees. When a Chinese person says "Our policy is to charge fees to those who charge fees to us" what they're really saying is "We're going to charge you fees whether you like it or not, but your country has provided us a face-saving out in case you get persnikety about it."
Visa fees for this kind of thing for most countries are about 30 to 50 USD. Today at the Taiwanese Mission here in Bangkok I paid the equivalent of about 120USD. Bring a wad o' bank, boyo. |

I'm assuming this is for a 60 days visa. 4400 baht!!!! I paid 1500 baht three weeks ago. I wasn't asked for a copy of my bank balance although proof of a credit card was needed.
Click! You got the multiple entry visa and not the single for 60 days!! |
