Hello, I'm a 26 year old Canadian with no Degree, but a TESOL certificate from Global TESOL College. I have some teaching experience from being a Youth Leader at my church here in Canada. I was wondering if you guys know which countries require (by law, not by suggestion) a degree to teach? I have heard that Korea is one of those countries, and that China is not. I was hoping to get some words of wisdom from people that know more than me (that's most of you) 
I'm open to any country atm. |

Korea requires a university degree if you want to get a work visa, and many schools provide airfare and accomodation.
Japan also requires a degree for a work visa but you can get a 6-month working holiday visa without needing a degree or sponsorship. You can stay and work in Japan up to one year with no degree. You must be under 30 years of age or have not reached your 31st birthday when applying.
If you have 3 years of verifiable teaching experience you can also get a Humanities visa in Japan with no degree. Private tutoring etc does not qualify for the visa.
On paper China requires a degree, but in practice almost any native speaker, caucasian in persuasion can get a job there if they really want one, even with no degree. A native speaker is all thats really sought after. |

Indonesia? There's no problem at all getting a TEFL job if you have only a TEFL certificate - though apparently there is no a restriction requiring you to be at least 25... |

Most of Latin America appears to be open to the degree-less. Of course, we're talking about dramatically different pay scales than Asia....

Not that dramatic. The countries in Asia where you earn something approaching the level of a full time job in North America (the most popular being Japan, Korea and Taiwan) all require a degree (however in one of those countries it is not uncommon for people with a "life experience" degree purchased online to sneak in. HINT- Not Japan or Taiwan).
In China (I think the most popular of the countries in which a degree is usually overlooked) the salary is low.
OP- my suggestion (and I'm sure you've heard it before or will hear it again) is to get a degree. You can get a three year degree in two years if you go full-time through the summers as well as the fall/winter terms. It opens far more doors than a week-long certificate does. |

| I do not know much about teaching abroad, but various "institutes" offer degrees based on life experience(or less). Just do a google search for online degrees and you should be able to find them pretty quickly. They are not accredited by anyone significant, if anyone at all, so basically you are paying for a pretty piece of paper. |
