I bet he won't last long now without June - He'll be gone before we know it.

You will have to explain this for those of us who know nothing of C&W Music after 1960. Some of us refuse to listen to anything recorded post-1940.(Those are the extremists in our camp.)

Johnny Cash began recording before 1960, scot47. You have no excuses now!

It will be a sad, sad day for popular music when Johnny goes. I, too, feel for him right now. I think within the next year we will see the passing of Johnny Cash. I hate to say it...

I've never been a big ( or little ) C&W fan, but Johnny Cash is special. This is a man who often took the hard road, but always kept on and never complained. You can see it in is face and you can definitely hear it in his voice and in the words he's written. He's one of a kind and I salute him.
Regards,
John

Back in 1976 Johnny and I were camping in the mountains up behind Ojai, Ca. We had this really old pick-up truck pulling a camp trailer.

A spark ignighted the dry tinder and the whole place went up in smoke. It was the biggest fire they had ever had around those parts.

Ventura County sued us for millions to cover the cost of putting out the fire. Ventura County vs. Johnny Cash et al. It is in the official courthouse records for you flamers and other unbelievers.

My friend - my friend - my friend the different roads we have traveled all within the ring of fire.

Now back to your battle stations - this is the captain speaking.

Well, Willie has survived drugs, booze, and the IRS, so I think (hope) he'll stay with us for a while longer. I'm more worried about Johnny now that June won't be around to keep him on the more-or-less-straight-but-not-entirely-narrow. As JohnSlat said, Mr. Cash is truly a one of a kind--I'd sure hate to see him go.

Dear Shaman,
True - no one gets out of here alive. But some people are dead long before they ever reach that " marble orchard ". Mr. Cash is NOT one of them. He's plumbed the depths and scaled the heights. And he's shared the journey with all who hear his songs. When he goes, he'll have squeezed every drop out of the marrow bone of life - and let us experience it, too, if only second-hand. When a life like his ends, how can you feel grief? He's LIVED, not just existed. And even when he's gone, he'll still be here, for many, many years to come.
Regards,
John

Well said (or written), John.

The unexamined life is not worth living. (Socrates)
All men die. Not all men truly live. (Braveheart)

I agree. A long AND full life is a blessing and shouldn't be met with grief. A long and EMPTY life on the other hand...

To paraphrase the notion of carpe diem: Live life to the fullest, because tomorrow you might be on the wrong side of the grass.
