I've posted on another thread about this, but thought it might be more useful to everyone out there going to interviews.

Check your school against the names here:

http://www.emb.gov.hk/index.aspx?nodeID=229&langno=1

Both links list offences ranging from not employing permitted teachers (not 100% sure how this works - maybe someone else could fill us in) or not being registered or having too many students in cramped quarters.

OR you could check the name of the school on this link:

http://www.emb.gov.hk/index.aspx?nodeID=1488&langno=1

They give you the actual form that was filled out by your school with loads of details about it (if it's registered of course).

Usually, if I can't find them there I don't even bother applying.

If you have any other links that might help please list them as well.

PS I'm still looking for agencies who work directly with schools or who are sanctioned to be on the official list of EMB approved teacher agencies - I've posted before but that one is as dead as Ger's one is going to be lively Wink

Permitted Teachers are teachers who wouldn't qualify under the EMB NET scheme's criteria. Usually learning centres need to apply for this"permit" from the Education Dept. You get a permit for the relevant centre which only allows you to work in that centre.

Apparantly it's been dropped in the past few months. Then again, this could be wrong. Immigration and Education Depts. aren't that clued up when it comes to one another. You get different answers to the same question sometimes...

I had a phone call from the EMB just an hour ago telling me I need to register as a Permitted Teacher as I do not meet the Registered Teacher criteria.

There are 2 types of registrations:

Permitted Teacher:
This requires meeting of the EM criteria.

Registered Teacher:
The Principle writes off and informs the EMB that he/she thinks you are a suitable person to teach teh class. A few forms required.

Opps got them the wrong ay round.

Registered = fully qualified.

Permitted = EMB has accepted the head's request for a non-fully qualified teacher to teach.
