Hi Guys,
I am in China and am looking to order Market Leader from Amazon as I need a decent business text book.
Is anyone using this? I want some info on the levels. Can not decide between
Intermediate and Upper Intermediate. Is there a big difference. Which one has better topics?
Also, does the Teacher's Resource Book include the Course Book. Like back to back like some other books......err...eg. New Interchange.
Feedback will be appreciated. |

Course book and teachers book are separate, and you need them both unfortunately, as the teachers book is very thorough notes and well worth the expense. Market Leader has a website which gives you the details of what is in each book. I'm currently using Pre-Intermediate and Intermediate, the subjects are excellent, I don't go Unit by Unit, I pick and choose what is appropriate for the class and actually ask them what topic they want to cover next. There are also supplementary ideas on the website.
As for topics... they all cover such topics as Marketing, Management, Planning, small talk, presentations, meetings, etc. etc. - just different levels.
I supplement with stuff downloaded from the web... mainly MacMillans business English site, which has excellent downloads, and free e-lessons each month.
Personally I think ML is one of the best coursebooks around for teaching business English. Very clear, lots of activities, and no I don't have shares!
Hope that helps
cheers

Yes, the Market Leader is a top notch Business English course book in my opinion. The levels that I know of or are available at Shanghais Book Traders are: Elementary, Lower Intermediate, Intermediate and Upper Intermediate. The Intermediate and Upper Intermediate topics are both interesting for students and to choose (which one Intermediate or Upper Intermediate) you should really look firstly on the level of your students, secondly on whom your students are or what their objectives are. Otherwise the topics of both course books are as interesting as they can be. Price wise, I find the books too expensive to sell to the Chinese students, even though many come from the companies (some companies pay for them, but still complain about the price). I have ordered Market Leader from SBT (Erica Chen). Her email is [email protected], if thats helpful. By the way, you need a well qualified teacher too teach those course books.

| Thanks for the help. I am (in my humble opinion) qualified enough. The students I usually have are a decent level, but will check out the contents of each and see which is more suitable. It won't be used as a core text book, just some extra stuff and for some one-2-one work. |
