Ok, I hope that I can get a clear and simple answer here.
I will going to Taiwan to look for work in August. What is the recommendation for Visas? There is the resident visa, tourist visa, landing visa, so many different names. I understand that I have to get sponsorship for an ARC, but what shall I get before coming to Taiwan?
Thank you,

Here is a fairly up to date link.

Be advised that the visa process is in a constant state of flux. It can be easy or difficult depending on how you present yourself and you needs. A lot has to do with luck as well.
A Multiple Entry Visitor Visa is the best visa you can get just for asking and paying a the application fee.
I would recommend applying for the visa through the travel agent you purchase you ticket with.
Good luck.

How long does it normally take to get an ARC? I considering working with a well known chain school. How long does it take them? Or do I do it myself? |

Do not use visa exempt entry. It can not be changed to a resident visa and you will need to leave the country and return on an resident visa.
Get a visitor's visa and say your purpose is tourism.
Getting an ARC takes over 1 month, but working during the application process (when the paperwork is actually sent in) is standard practice. |

Unless you are incredibly insightful or have a lot of quanxi you can not sponsor your own work visa/ARC. You have to find an employer and apply through them.
All work visa's for non Chinese on Taiwan are similar to the US H1B visa system. The exception being that you as a Non Chinese person have few if any rights on Taiwan. Once you sign a contract with an employer you have effectively waived your rights under Taiwan's toothless and widely ignored labor laws. If you want to change jobs on Taiwan, you must get a new visa.
Good luck!

You want to get the 60 day tourist visa. As pwh said, it will take over a month to get your ARC and you need your visa to be valid until you get it. |
