Two inbox items this morning- maybe you saw them. This one is for positions in a Shanghai high school. It's good to see they're taking us and themselves seriously.[see Senor's "100 rmb an hour" thread]

" Teaching hours are 24 class hours per week, 45 minutes per class hour. Class size ranges from 6-25 students. Teachers need to have a Bachelor degree or above. At least 2 years of teaching experiences in China or abroad. Teaching credential/experience in China is a plus. Starting salary: USD 1500/month, plus accomodation[sic], round-trip airfare, medical insurance, and all national holidays. "

The other one is from the TEACH IN CHINA newsletter,a distant descendent of the old website of that name from a few years back. It used to carry 100's of jobs. A purely local outfit, judging by the English.

"Influenced by the SARS, schools in China are changing their international teachers' employment plane. They'd find local teachers to replace the positions for foreigners.

The SARS really frightful but it is not so fearful if only you don't touch with any SARS patient. "

So heed that good advice. You can look, but DON'T TOUCH!
Are these two texts a pointer to the future of EFL in China, ie, fewer jobs, but better paid, and requiring appropriate qualifications and experience?

This might be true. I started a job search a few days ago and and I see a lot of scam artists combined with places that want good people and are willing to pay. Maybe the new trend. I saw a ridiculous scam I think I will post in Mr Woogies thread.

PS Minhang---Try as I may I cannot find an Australian-English dictionary.I just get a lot of confused looks---which of course is normal. I would even settle for an Australian-Pinyon dictionary. If they exist!!! Mate, cheers>>>
