Hi folks,

I'm a Certified teacher with a B.Ed. in Education, and a holder of a British and Canadian passport (with the right to work in Europe).

Do any of you folks have information about teaching English in Spanish Elementary and High schools? Is a B.Ed. necessary to teach there, or do they take any 'native language speakers' as they do in other Latin American countries?

Having invested in all that education, I would rather work in a school or University, as opposed to a 'language school.'

I also have a B.A., M.A. and T.E.S.L. Certificate (in addition to the B.Ed.). Fluent Spanish also.

Your qualifications sound good, and they are the kind of qualifications which would definitely appeal to private schools in Spain. Getting into the public (state) system is practically impossible for foreigners. Each teacher who wishes to work in the public system must write an "oposici�n" (a government exam), along with all the other people who wish to work as teachers. Exam results are then considered with other factors (including past experience, higher degrees, etc.).

The number of jobs available each year is shrinking, which means that you would be up against a sizeable number of Spaniards who are similarly qualified -- but who would be accepted first because, as Spanish/EU citizens, are given priority in teacher recruitment.
