hi, I have reading a few posts on this forum and they are very interesting.

I am coming out to live with my girlfirend who has an apartment in Tokyo, and I am looking to get on a AEON or internic program as it seems unlikely that I will find professional IT work without Being able to converse in Japanese yet. I want to do a Japanese language course too.

I am obviously tied into living in Tokyo, so was wondering if AEON are likely to assign me in Tokyo. I have mentioned this to them in my application but I have not yet had a response from them yet, the UK interviews are on the 22nd May so I have a bit of time left. I am also going to do a TEFL course just to make sure starting on the 8th of May to widen my options both now and when i'm there.

On a different note, i read the sticky post about Japanese women, Very interesting. I am keen to understand more about the culture so I can better understand my girlfriend! like the idea that me living with her will have to be a secret from her parents Wink. She has talked about them and said they'd b open to a white guy with thier daughter, but i was surprised that she had never taken a past boyfriend to meet her P's. she is from Hokiado (srry 'bout the spelling if it is wrong). But after reading the post i think i understand y.

Simon.

oh and i wanted to ask about visas, if i can't get a job through aeon or internic, is it possible for me to just come out as a tourist and move in with my girlfriend and find work in a school when i'm there? Will it be possible for me to be granted a work visa whilst i'm out there? I ask this because I see many Jobs on the Gaijinpot website that say the applicant must currenlty reside in Japan. Is this because they want people to come for interviews?, or they don't want to have to sponser a visa? (or both?)

Interac would probably be able to accomodate your needs of being in Tokyo better than Aeon, who will send you anywhere in Japan it needs you.

Also, if you are interested in learning Japanese, you will be FAR better off as an ALT. You will be using a lot more Japanese. At the office parties for example, people will speak to you in Japanese, where as at any Aeon type social event, it will be free english practice for many.

Also, there are more opportunities for part time work working as an ALT.

opps, internic is the internet DNS authority.
I have applied to Interac as well, how long do they take to respond to an application?? I applied last week to a few places but so far have not had even a confirmation response that they have recieved my application.

That AEON interview sounds like it'll be good experience, but I am worried about going through so much effort to be told that They don't have any positions in Tokyo, It seems that other people have been declined by them recently, so i guess I will have to wait and see.

TBH i think that Interac sounds like the best option for me for now

Do you have a bachelor's degree? If not, you won't be granted a work visa. If you do have one, then yes, it is POSSIBLE. How likely will depend on how well you interview, how good your resume looks, and when/where you look.

Your use of the word "whilst" suggests that you are British. Are you? If so, you could try to get a working holiday visa before you leave your home country, then you could work in practically any job except bars, but only for a year.

One more minor note. I don't usually mention these things, but your post contained quite a bit of misspellings, punctuation mistakes, and improper capitalization. You'd better watch out for these on cover letters and resumes.

lol. don't worry, i write very laid back in forums. (but thx 4 the critic Wink)

Yes I am a Brit! well spotted, and yes i do have a bachelors degree, it its in IT Communications Systems. I have 1 years experience in a software development company here and have been working for JP Morgan since I returned from China, so I should be quite employable.

This working holiday visa is quite interesting, I suppose that it will be possible for me to later get a full working visa later on. I suppose that I would have to leave the country whilst the vias is being processed, but that is no biggie as my dad lives in the States so it could be a good excuse for a visit, my GF ain't met him either so that could work out well.

update:

Just spoke to the embassy about the working holiday visa, that seems like the best option for me, as i have a place to live, and it will mean that i can apply to all of those jobs that say u must have a visa and be currently living in japan! They said that i can always transfer to a working visa if i find an employer willing to do that as well. (i still have to leave the country tho for that to happen)
