Hey Everyone!
I'll be in Krakow this summer studying at the university after which i hope to remain and teach English.
I have my bachelor's, plenty of work experience [non-teaching], will have my TEFL diploma by the time I arrive, and my Polish is pretty decent [both my parents were born there].
That being said...anyone know that the job prospects might be for someone like me?? |

You should be fine. Just make it a point to visit as many schools as possible and drop off your resume even before you're availalbe to start work.
It would be better if you had some experience but since you speak Polish that will help you as a lot of schools would like teachers who speak Polish for teaching children and beginning adults.
I would recommend sending your resume on the net and visiting the schools every two weeks as the schools often through out old resumes and keep the new ones since most people find some work after a few weeks.
All the best,
Gregory |

Hey there. FYI there are 72 language schools in Krakow. I dropped off my resume at maybe 20+ schools. There is definitely a thriving market for native speakers. The summertime will definitely be a whole different animal that is for sure. I have never been here in the summertime so I wouldn't know what the job hunting is like during that time. HOWEVER...
Just want to give you my insights into the pay here in Krakow. 40 pln per 45 minutes is about the going rate for a native speaker. I am working illegally right now. I found work here after the semester had already started. I have since done about 5 demo lessons for various schools. I am working for a school that pays 35 per academic hour. I know one school that pays 25 per academic hour and that is SO low in my opinion. Shouldn't be too difficult to find 40 though ok?? I can tell you which schools I am talking about if you pm me. Good luck. |

Yes, summers are hard (I figured the OP was going to be busy this summer). In fact a lot of teachers teach intensives, go home, go on vacation and or combination of them all. The city is so full of tourists that a lot of the local young people like to leave town as well.
But you will want to be here in September to pick up a job in October. Also the standard pay after taxes is usually 30zl an hour. |
