|
|
In short -- It looks like my employer, a program strongly associated with a Public University, does not want to pay for the cost incurred in getting a Visa and for my airfare back home.
Question: Is there anything I can do to pressure them to play by the rules.
P.S. The contract does not say anything about who pays for the Visa and work Visa. The airfare is mentioned clearly in the contract.
Thanks in advance. |

What country are you in?
Are you actually employed by the university or by an outside sub-contracted employer?
Pressure? Join a union. Usually you have no show in a month of Sundays if you try and negotiate by yourself. |

Huh - what rules? What country?
They really only owe you what's in writing. If you have some written proof that they owe you the airfare now or the visa money now, show it to them. If they don't want to honour the agreement, they you aren't obliged to either and can go home.
What do other teachers who work for this employer say? Have they had problems with reimbursement? |

Okay,
The program that I work for is directly associated with the University and the University is the one that issues the Visa -- Does that make the University technically my employer?
It looks like I have no recourse here in China.
I seemed to remember reading that there is an agency which that regulates the fair treatment of all of us Foreign Experts. If someone knows the name or address of this agency I would appreciate it.
Thank for all comments. |

If you work for a university and they pay your salaryevery month then yes they are your employer (I guess you would know who signs your pay check by now) and if its anything like Japan, then technically you are a public servant working for the state i.e. the local or central government is employing you. Seems off that a government agency would want to stiff you on your visa and airfare. Is there no 'middle man' that you report to? Dont you have labor unions in China? |

You would probably receive much more knowledgable advice on the China Forum. |
