Whoa! Could anyone please tell me if it is necessary to acquire a 60 day multiple entry visa if I was to come to Taiwan to teach? I've heard mixed reports. Some of my peeps have told me that you can just show up in the country, get the 30 day tourist visa, and chill until the school provides you with the work visa and ARC. I've also heard that you need the 60 day one to get the work visa.

If there are any Canadians on here who have applied for the 60 day, Could you give me any info on the application process and how long it took? Thank you all.

It doesn't matter which country you are coming from nor your nationality. You need to arrive on a pre-issued visa if you intend to find work and transfer over to a resident visa once you are here. A landing visa and a visa free entry are not suitable for this purpose, and you would need to leave the country to change over to a resident visa if you entered on either of these.

I would strongly suggest getting the multiple-entry visa you may still have to do a visa run and it makes life a LOT easier. I came from Ottawa so getting to the Taiwanese trade offfice was very easy. I am on a mutli entry at the moment adn getting a good job is not as easy as some would have you believe. DO NOT tell them you are coming to teach. Say the trip is purely for pleasure and you will travel to other countries from Taiwan. Then you have no problems getting one. It may take a little while to get a good job so count on at least one visa run. Take my word for it, it will make you life a lot easier. I have a brother that has been in Taiwan for 2 years so I have support here and I still had to do a run to hong kong adn will probably have to do one more. Send me a PM if you have any questions and I would be glad to help any way I can. I am in Taoyuan at the moment ( it's right outside of Taipei, sort of).
