I just told the owner to shove it up her date.

She wants foreign teachers to work for a whopping $6 - $7.50 an hour. Unbelieveable. Who works for less than $12? (If you do then you should either kill yourself or find new work).

It's a brand spanking new school, so I could understand her being mildly retarded, but the bout of explosive diarrhea in her brain seems to to have stuck.

I know this for a fact because she got all excited about my university IT and started yammering on about me teaching computer english. After I told her that my usual rate for computer english is north of $20 an hour, I agreed that I'd be teaching low level IT and threw the number 13 ($ an hour) at her for all hours. This would give her the computer english for a couple of hours at a cheap rate and I'd get at least the minimum (that's $12 you idiot backpackers and old geezers).

No dice. She told me $7.50 an hour and this was not up for negociation. I told her that she wouldn't get any teachers for that and remarked to my roommate (who was sitting next to me) "this is why I told you not to work for Viet Kieu".

He had actually negociated a rate of $10 an hour, but for 30 hours a week -- which is ok for full time morning and afternoon monday through friday.

He had worked a full day yesterday, but this morning she dropped a contract in front of him for $7.50. He, of course, walked.

She has no clue, and actually screamed at the pre-schoolers when they cried on the first day of school. This shows that she is only here to make money, which is perfectly ok with me, but she plans to rip off her teachers as well as the parents. You shouldn't waste your time going there and let her go out of business.

The end.

Expect more of this in the future.

Similar thing happened to me.

It is harder to do, but avoid working for locals when you can.

What I want to know is who are the chumps accepting sub-$12 work?

The people I've come across that work for less than twelve are people that may not have any qualifications on paper, backpackers that have some experience or can dress well, and people that are in their first year.

Regardless, it is something to be aware of.
