I've used Introduction to Academic Writing by Alice Oshima, the Tapestry series, a few others before for senior high writing programs.

But what about junior high? My kids are advanced ESL to native level, both spoken and written.

Any advice?

I'd be tempted to use an age-appropriate first language writing book. Having lived overseas, it will be difficult to find a second langauge textbook that doesn't either talk down to your students or address issues which they are not experienced enough to cope with.

The only level-apporpriate books you'll probably find will be those that address academic writing and JHS students don't need to focus on that for an entire year/semester, if at all IMO.

Unfortunately, I've never taught JHS or first language Writing/English, so I can't recommned any texts myself. I suggest that you call some of the bigger name publishers and see what they can find for you. Alternatively, someone teaching at an international school may have some advice.

Good luck!
