Can anyone recommend a mobile phone provider in Indonesia? Since I am assuming the prices are much of a muchness, what I am looking for is a company that will allow me to get my balance and other information in English without having to wade through several levels of menus. Thanks for all suggestions. |

You should check with someone who lives in the city you're planning on being in most often.
Amazingly enough, the system works in cells when it comes to charging, and if you call from another town other than the one your card is for, you and your friends wil pay a lot more.
Some companies have no towers outside the big cities, so check this with a local user. i.e let people know what city you'll be working from.
I think Telekom has one of the better deals. You need to shop around to see what price is being asked for a SIM card. Easy numbers or 'good luck' numbers are very expensive. |

I use Simpati (available from practically any mall or roadside place that sells pulsa) and never had a problem with it except in Meulabo (West Aceh), but no big surprises there. Started working more as I was there though, must have been fixing the towers or something.
Anyways, Simpati has the best coverage as far as I'm aware, rates and cheap and you can get your balance at any time by pressing *888# (dial) and up she pops! |
