Basic necessities are very cheap, but westerners always seem to find some way to spend their money! As a beginner you'll likely be offered between 6 and 8 million Rupiah. |

Salaries differ enormously depending on where you are in Indonesia. Local things are cheap but Western products and services are the same wherever you go in Indonesia.
I worked in SBY for 2 years and ended uo with 9mil a month, that was plenty. But I don't know what the cost of living is like now..also yo may be offered a salary as low as 5mil or 3mil in the smaller cities.

NO ITS NOT TRUE. YOU CAN DRINK "TOPI MIRING" 14% like 14,000 a bottel, be it not as good or strong as western stuff.
the ? is "how do you want to live!" NOT

How much money can I expect to get paid on average in Indonesia, say Bali, teaching English with no degree and just a Tesol certificate? |

I have to dispute willy's numbers. I lived in an upscale neighborhood in Jakarta. I shared a very nice house with some other teachers. We had parties, did some drinking, bought western goodies, travelled, went out to bars, etc.
I found my monthly expenses to be in the order of 3 to 4 million rupiah a month. |

maybe he only had 1 beer. and used the enco bus.
anyway here in my neck of the woods things cost more than in Jakarta.
Bali? no idea i have never met a teacher that has worked there.
i would think you need to stay out of the tourst hang outs or you may feel poor fast.
