Hello Everyone,
Well, basically, I need some Head&Shoulders type shampoo. Yes, dandruff shampoo. The world may know, I don't care. So, does anyone know some brand names of this sort of thing in Japan? Preferably brands that are common at supermarkets or drug stores. Thank you.

I would be interested in this also. I have looked for such a product but I have not had any luck.I get my brother to ship me some bottles from Canada every now and then.If I could find an alternative here in Japan it would save a lot of money. |

No one knows about this? Come on guys, just admit it...
In Japanese, dandruff is "fuke." Seems kind of appropriate. So, I bought this stuff in a green bottle called Okuto, which is written in katakana. It's a small mint colored bottle. Looks like the manufacturer's name is Lion. That's written in small Roman letters towards the bottom of the bottle. This cost a little over 400 yen.
If anyone can add to the list, please do so.

I had my wife look out specially for this (she's the shopping expert in our home!). She drew a blank. But then I thought maybe she's looking in the wrong place. I would try a pharmacy/drug store for dandruff shampoo and NOT a supermarket.
Yes, Lion is a major producer of hygene products in japan. |

Just pray it isn`t hair removal.
I bought some shaving cream last month that burned my cheek and the alcohol in it made my eyes burn too for a few hours. It really was shaving cream too. |

If you can't find a Pantene brand or OCT brand, look for Merit (in katakana). It's cheap, too. |

My girlfriend picked me up some MoltoBene hair and scalp shampoo and conditioner. Only I'm not sure how good it is as I've been alternating with ginger based shampoo from the body shop (mild) and the selson blue antidandruff foam (strong) I got my mum to send me. I only use the selson blue once every two weeks or so, and even then not too much.
Does anyone know if you can pick it up here ???

same subject over at gaijinpot, so I will give same answer as I did over there.
Use regular shampoo, and soap.
wash with a regular shampoo, rinse. Then wash your hair with plain old bar soap. I swear it works. I haven't used dandruff shampoo in almost a year. I was skeptical at first but am a believer now. |

I've noticed that in the Spring (this month) and Winter, "fuke" (dandruff) is common both on my head and on the heads of SO many people around me.
I suspect that the ways we have of heating out homes, from kerosene heater to air conditioner, may be drying out our scalps. I suspect that's why our eyes burn, and coughs are commonplace, in WInter and early Spring.
If the dandruff is a recent thing for you, and you use either an air conditioner or a kerosene heater to heat your home, consider using a humidifier...or just leaving around a lot of wet towels and a steamy-hot bathtub full of water, to keep your home's air moist.
I'm not an expert...just guessing here. If I'm full of "hot air", please someone, tell me so. |

Everytime I have used 'Head and Shoulders' it seems to CAUSE dandruff!
I swear, it loosens every flake of skin on your head. I have talked to others who have experienced this. I would try another brand that claims to fight dandruff myself. |

While were on the subject hygiene products, I'm a guy that perspires. Where can I get a pit stick that isn't some liquid role on of a deodorant sheet. I'm dreading the day my supply runs out and the Japanese smell me for who I really am. |

Depending where you are, you can go to the foreign drug store within the UENO train station on the Yamanote line in Tokyo.
They have North American deoderant. Otherwise, get someone from home to mail you some. |

Yes, try the American Pharmacy, the one at Ueno is near the Ameyoko exit. Expensive, but if it comes from home, maybe worth it. They also have a branch near Ginza. They generally speak english, so may also be able to point you to Local brands. |
