I posted in the General Discussion Forum when I should have posted here. So......

In short -- It looks like my employer, a program strongly associated with a Public University, does not want to pay for the cost incurred in getting a Visa and for my airfare back home. It is a special program that uses the University's name and visa is sponsered by this Univesity.

Question: Is there anything I can do to pressure them to do what is right and fair.

P.S. The contract does not say anything about who pays for the Z-Visa. The airfare is mentioned clearly in the contract and says they will provide 5000 RNB.

I seem to remember someone posting something stating there is a State Office that protect us Foreign Experts in matters of Visa and Airfare Reimbursement.

the university I am with currently does NOT pay for my Visa or my airfare. nor utilities for my on-campus flat.
BUT, I receive a monthly stipend to cover those expenses.
they will pay for a single entry Z, but I payed the extra for a multi-entry Z.
every contract seems to be different from province to province.
in shanghai the university paid for everything - everything!
in jiangxi every month was a small battle for every RMB.
in guangdong it is done like clock work in a business fashion.
get someone to translate your Chinese contract. that is the one that really matters. your English contract is not worth the paper it is on.

Don't forget, in most places these days, a multi-entry visa is no longer necessary. You (or the school) will get a single-entry Z visa and your school should (MUST?) take your passport with said visa to the local PSB. They will (should?) give you a multi-entry residence permit, affixed directly to one of your passport pages. This allows you to go out of and return to China freely for the duration of the Residence Permit. This is a very common "perk" that most Chinese schools offer.

As for plane fare, I would insist they offer you something: a refund for your purchased ticket at the end of term, a "set" amount to go toward getting you back home, a year-end bonus . . . whatever they want to call it. Just make sure you don't get stuck in China after 6 or 12 months because your school is not taking care of you like most schools do.

There will be an uniform visa that doubles as your residence permit and entitles the bearer of a passport with the said residence permit to enter and leave any time they want during the specified period of sojourn in the mainland - that's the latest I heard from my FAO (and from other posters in this forum). No need any longer for you to have a green residence permit (booklet). And no single-entry visas any more.

my univeristy does not pay for my visa and i had to shell out 759 rmb or something like that for a Z visa.

I am a business teacher and view it as a cost of doing business.

Next contract will have a visa clause it it to have the employer pay for the visa.

Why worry about the small stuff?

Do worry about the the plane ticket as that IS in the contract.

i also have to pay for utilities but it cost 94 a month - why should i make an issue over such a minor amount of money?

Thank you for putting things into perspective. Your comments have been very much welcomed. I don't want to hang my dirty laundry out for public consumption. I just want to know what legal recourse I have.
