				| After teaching in China for nearly 2 years now, one school year in a senior middle school and now currently at a language institute. I feel totally flat. When I first arrived I was full of enthusiasm and energy. I am going back home for a holiday, in the hope that a change will perk me up. I will definitly return to China to teach but I am thinking maybe it would be more rewarding teaching again in a school, to have more continuity with the students and build up relationships and see their progress. I would like some feedback on other teachers experiences in this regard. I have just discovered this forum and I wish I had discovered it earlier.
I would like to thank the teacher that put me on to the boggle website and the amusing man that has the ALI G avatar.
I have taught Ithe song, I Like Chinese several times in class with mixed reactions, mostly good.
 Cheers Woza

				| As a fellow teacher I can certainly understand your feelings. I play basketball, pingpong, with my students hoping to have them see me as not only their teacher 24 hours a day. Some of the boys have not responded in the classroom. I teach at a small level 3 college in Wenzhou so at times I become discouraged but in other students I see progress 1 step at a time. I look for the small things rather than the large things. I hope this will help you. | |

				| Public schools are a drag because their operations are highly politicised. Training centres are a drag because they cater to nitwits and money bags, and on occasion to really dedicated learners though they account for a tiny minority!
Try a kindergarten, my friend! Those little innocent beings are without biases, without a "Chinese subconscious" (a Jungian term), and they can be a real joy to handle!
And you will personally be involved in their acquiring ENglish - not be a mere cog in a school setting!

I just read 5 minutes ago how you were bemoaning the incompetance and lack of professionalism of your Chinese 'helper'. Mate, you then went on to detail how you walked out of the b.loody class. Come on, a bit of consistancy hey.

I teach at one of those joints with nitwits and moneybags and I have day on day experiences which leave me satisfied, sufficiently challenged and
happy enough to go home and correct, prepare and plan for the days ahead! (They're not all bad!)

				| Oz -
 WRONG!!!

Roger may have been here for a long, long time, but no - he is not CHRIST!!

Oz do you know about the "E" visa? It is when you keep hijacking legitimate posts with dung and the moderators give you your EXIT visa from this forum.

Maybe yours is now being processed.

				| To grumpy Wozzy from Oz,
that post was written on Monday, first work day, not always the best in my work week. But even so, if you had read it carefully, you would have noticed that one unhelpful teacher was largely offset by assistants in two other classes where things had gone decidedly well!

				| I think i haven't explained my position well. For the last 3 months I have been working 2 hours a weekday and 14 on the weekends, so I been feeling underemployed during the week which has lead to this state. Anyway I spoke to my boss last night and Iam going to teach primary school during the weekdays, grade 1-5. small classes, the kids sit in a circle , understanding principal etc.
I really don't want to go home yet because it would mean sitting around home for 6 weeks where I would actually prefer to work and then take a vacation to both Aust and Britain to catch up with friends.
 Regards Carol
