I want to send a box of clothes back to Canada.
How do I ask for 'sea mail' in Japanese?
I think it will be too expensive by plane so I figured by boat is the cheapest.
ps: I don't take care if it takes 2 months to get there. Whatever if cheapest. |

Seamail is "funabin"
Airmail is ""kokubin". |

| Be sure that each package is under 2 KG's as you wont need to fill out a shipping inovice (only green tag needed) and can send them for 1080 yen a pop!!! |

| Should be find if shipping to Canada from Japan.... As far as I know, Canada Post don't do SAL -- it's either air or land. So it leaves Japan by plane but when it hits Canada it gets treated as surface mail... But then, I suppose that's the whole point. Don't quote me on that though.... I just know OUTGOING mail in Canada doesn't have SAL. |

SAL is a kind of budget Airmail where stuff takes longer, 2-3weeks, but treated eseentially like Airmail.
It costs roughly double what SEA Mail does..
Canada Post does have it but I think they charge more than Japan Post for internaitonal shipping.. They call it "Small Packets."
If your sending a lot of stuff home buy a baking scale (they go up to 2KG) and measure out your packages this way.
You'll save a lot.
If it's more thna 2 KG you have to fill out a special invoice and pay way more..
Just sent a bike yesterday by SAL for 18,000 yen... |

Thanks for the info.
I already packed a box which is about 10kg, not sure as I don't have a scale. How much do you think that will cost to send by SAL? |
