Start with the "Law of the People's Republic of China" ( the little green book published in Chinese and English and available at your local Public Safety or Foreign Affairs Office (Municipal not school).
See pages 29 ARTICLE 9; PG. 38 ARTICLE 4 (1); PG. 39 ARTICLE 6 (1); PG. 42 ARTICLE 16.
TO QUALIFY YOU MUST BE MARRIED TO A CHINESE NATIONAL AND LIVE WITH HER IN CHINA FOR ONE YEAR. (Resist Flames At This Point)
You need a 90 day "L" visa renewed 3 consecutive times to qualify. They do not count time under a "Z" visa and of course you can not (are not supposed to work under "L") work during your waiting period. I think grease takes care of this in provinces outside Shanghai. Also, if you are well liked at your school, they can take care of this for you with a lunch for the right official.
Then you need a police clearance from your home town. (That is a killer for some of you. I just held my flame as long as possible.)
It really is not that difficult particularly if your school leadership is friendly to you. |
