Is wearing a skirt for teaching pretty standard there, or are dress slacks or pants acceptable too?

And is there any need for me to bring my birth certificate with me?

Uncle Kent says: only for the women! Laughing Mr. Green Twisted Evil I'm sorry; I couldn't resist!

As for bringing a Birth Certificate: I've carried mine with me for the past 16 years in 8 countries on 3 continents, and nobody has ever asked to see it. It's probably not a bad idea to have it along for the ride, just in case you would lose your passport, but imo you won't need it.

Hi,

At my school (and all the other schools in my town at least) we have to wear skirts that are on or below the knee, blouses that cover your shoulders and shoes with a heel or a strap at the back. I think this is pretty much the same all over. Basically you have to dress conservatively and smartly.

Hope this helps!
Laura

If you teach at a university you can actually choose what you wear within reason. Yes, the tendency still leans toward conservative, but there is no official policy.

As for the birth certificate, I've carried mine around like Kent but never used it, except maybe to get a replacement passport. I can't remember if I needed it then, but probably did.

I haven't heard of anyone that's had to use their birth certificate, but the course I'm going to be attending says:

"If you are planning on seeking work in Thailand, please bring along your original diploma and transcripts from College, Technical School or High School, as well as a copy of your birth certificate."

High school transcripts? I might have to dig a copy of those up. I thought employers only asked for college transcripts. And I would think that my passport would be accepted for employment in lieu of a birth certificate because I needed to have proof of the bc in order to get the passport in the first place.
But, yea, I guess it's better to be safe than sorry so I'll just bring everything. Like sigmoid pointed out, it could prove to be useful if I need to replace my passport.

laura- Yes, that did help thankyou. I'll bring skirts instead of pants.
