I am a teacher in Daqing, western Heilongjiang province. Generally speaking, it is a great place to work. Daqing is the "Oil Capital of China", making it a relatively wealthy city, yet relatively untouched by western thinking. Don't get me wrong, it is only 50 odd years old, so traditional Chinese culture is non-existant. But lifestyle and salaries would have to be the most competitive in China.
I wish to warn anyone coming here about a school. The school is Yuanda English School run by Mrs. Wang (Wang Dongying). The school is a money making venture with little regard of students education of the wellbeing of its teachers. Upon my arrival in Harbin, I was informed that the school was unable to organise my working visa, despite 3 months time to prepare it. As a result, I was forced to travel to Hong Kong. My airfare to Hong Kong was paid and spending money given, yet I was told I would not be reimbursed my return airfare back home. Basically, it was costing me because of their incompetency. As well as this, she was reluctant to provide me with a contract. Only after threatening to leave did she provide one, without details of airfare reimbursement. Despite adjusting the contract to include this, upon compeltion of the contract, she would not pay it. When in hospital after an operation, Mrs. Wang showed very little sympathy, demanding that I return to class. Trust me, you wouldn't want to be working with my illness.
This lady is extremely well connected, making her able to screw you with no solution. My advice, stay clear of this school. I am not the only one who has had problems Sad .

I sympathise with how you were treated.
Not far from you at Tongliao in Inner Mongolia is a company called
English World Club they fired a number of teachers for no reason (the teachers had complained about not being paid.
Many of the teachers had to travel to HK at their own expense to get visas(Which had been promised them)
English World Club - Tongliao like your School has no ethics and will cheat you "at the drop of a hat"
