Dear all....
I am wanting to obtain the CELTA certification b/c it is a prereq. for most of the programs that I am looking at in Russia. CELTA courses in the US are not located in Pittsburgh, my hometown. I want to either study and obtain certification while living at home, or do the coursework abroad.
Is there any way for me to obtain CELTA qualifications without taking the course? Second, if I do end up having to go abroad, which CELTA courses in what location would position me the best to go to Russia afterwards?
Thanks!
Maureen

There is only one CELTA qualification and there is only one way to get it, to attend classes.

I did my training at the International Language Institute in Halifax, Nova Scotia in eastern Canada. I ended up spening about $4000 CND that month including tuition, living expenses (they set up a homestay for you), and transport costs. It was pretty good, and cheap, and would be pretty good for Americans because of the exchange rate, not to mention the close proximity to where you are (relatively).

I suggest you first get the CELTA then worry about Russia. One step at a time.

Hi Maureen:

Why not take it in Kiev or Moscow?

http://www.ih.kiev.ua/en/celta.htm (IH Kiev)

http://www.bkc.ru/eng/training/ (BKC-IH Moscow)

note: BKC-IH is known to hire people who take the CELTA with them!

Of course, you can do it in many locations around the world,

including New York City, which would be the closest to Pittsburgh:

Hi
I am in the CELTa program as we speak.
I highly recommend taking it from International House anywhere in the world. The reason I recommend this is becuase IH is the largest organization that is set up to do this all over the world. If you are looking to find a job, they have a 10 page listing of all of the IH's looking to hire a Celta teacher from every location across the globe. I think this is a great tool. There is a large degree of credibility that also comes along with IH too. Everyone knows them.
