Hi Folks,
Just received a job offer to teach English at St. Theresa Inti College in Nakomnayok.
Any feedback or advice?

Hi Joe:
Actually I pass through Nakhon Nayok on Thursdays and Fridays on my way to and from Kabinburi. I teach a company class out there. Nakhon Nayok is roughly 100 km north-north-east of Bangkok, maybe an hour and a half from Bangkok by bus.
Far enough away from Bangkok to be considered 'in the country' but definitely not primitive.
On 45K you'd have a VERY good life there (and clean air too)!
It's a damn good offer for outside BKK, imho.

That's a fantastic deal for the sticks -- which Nakomnayok technically is in. You'll only be in Bangkok for weekends -- but if big city life isn't for you there honestly aren't many job offers as good as that one out there!
What are your quals, by the way?
Oh, and be aware that "college" in Thailand sometimes means 16-19 year olds only. Sometimes not. Not a bad age to be teaching, though. |

Thanks for the support and advice,
I have taught English, Public Speaking, (and a course to prepare beginning English speakers) in California for 20 years at every grade level from kindergarten to college . I possess a Masters Degree in English Education, and three California teaching credentials.
I've checked every available online site to learn about Nakhornnayok (also known as Nakhon Nayok?). Seems like a beautiful place-far away from the city to be less hustle and bustle-but close enough to get away to, right?
I'm looking forward to it!

| Sounds like a very attractive offer, joem! With your qualifications, you'd be an excellent choice for one of the top international schools, but then you'd probably be stuck in a city. |

Depends on how 'proper' the International school is:
From 25K to 150+K.
The better ones will pay a minimum of 60-70K plus! |

With some hustle you could pretty easily pull down 100kB a month in Bangkok (up to 140 or 160). Your age might be the only bad thing about your resume.
Have you visited Thailand before? Be aware that many people find Bangkok's hustle and bustle easy to rise above, and when not avoidable, find it worth it in order to stay closer to the comforts of home that (in Thailand) are really only readily available in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and the big resort towns on Puket, Pattaya, and Ko Samui.
Still, it's a good offer and you'll have a good year on that if you're just looking to switch things up from California. If you want to stay in Thailand for the long term you'll probably want to move up the salary scale a bit in coming years -- as on 40k a month you'll have a good life but likely have to pay for flights to and from home out of your savings. |
