For those of you who are "in the know" so to speak (or even just in Turkey!): have you seen the job adverts posted for Kultur2000 in Istanbul? I was browsing the job board here on ESL Cafe recently when I came across them. Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't 800GBP, free furnished flat, etc. pretty good for Turkey? As in perhaps TOO good?? Can anybody tell me anything about this school?
Thanks! |

Not bad school, middle of no-where. The pay is not bad and the conditions may be true but you are working well out of the city. |

I made 600gbp in kayseri 3 years ago with free flat, airfare, heaps of hols etc, so 800 in Istanbul (admittedly a bit, er, outside of the city) is a fair deal and not unheard of.
Will our Kultur2000 kindergarten goddess please stand up to speak to the masses? Your wisdom is sought after... |

hey guys, your goddess has arrived
everything offered is true, but you are outside the city. there are services buses that run all over the place so you can live inside the city.
the work load and meeting schedule is pretty crazy thou. the kids are jerks in the upper grades, but where are they not? although you don't have to work saturdays often, second semester is full of working saturdays and working long hours. there are also no mid semester breaks a big part of the reason why i am leaving this year.
the main probs with the kolej are overwork, lack of resources, admin etc...but they have said that they will be trying to remedy these problems for the next year. they do help you get insurance and are doing work visas for everyone next year as well. there are good sides to the school but it's just not for me, but others have been there for 3 years now.
the good things about the school are the staff and i know that in the older grades they do have a lot of down time during the day. the head of foreign lang coordinator is amazing and if you have a problem she will twist things around to help you out. i suppose that if you want a good package in this country you have to work for it... |

it seems there are some good jobs in turkey. but you need to have the correct qualifications. from what ive seen in the past year or so is that institutes dont offer much, esp. to 'backpacker teachers' but real schools do. kayseri, kultur2000, bilkent, and istek to name a few.
i guess positions at these schools dont become available as often as the others do, simply because they do offer quite good perks. |

but WHY do you say they are crap???!!! You must have some reason, it is not very fair to come out and say a school is crap if you don't have any real explanation to back up your insult. |

whynotme, are you talking about istek vakfi as a whole or a specific school when you say istek is crap? (i'm not familiar with the kolej schools; there might be a kolej called istek and i would have no idea, so bear with me here)
if you're talking about the vakif itself, i'd like to find out why you think they're crap as well. |

I'm not sure what whynotme means by crap. I'm sure he has a good reason and I have to agree to a point.
I worked at Istek at Semira Şakir in Goztepe(?). The people were great the admin less so. I got payed on time and all the conditions of the contract were meet. Why did I leave = money. The pay rate is at the low end around 1,200 to 1,500 U$ dollars.
My school was ok. Yet while I was there I was told that other schools in the Istek group were crap.
So watch out, there always looking for teachers. |

you are all right ...it is easy to throw beans on a school or a company..ok i ll go now....the main reason is they are only aiming to earn money not to teach anything, do you know why they work with very young teachers especially who haven't finished their training period? i have never worked for them but a friend of mine worked for one of the ISTEK schools and she couldnt stand the students coz they were really spoilt and nobody supported her during that period.....i find Istek lises a bribge to Yeditepe university which is theirs as well and i hate when they boast most of their students succeed in the OSS and go to a uni. which is bullshit because most of them go to Yeditepe Uni which is the crap of the crop. i also hate the way they charge for everything and give nothing to their teachers...is that enough or want some more .........( do i sound like 31 ? if so sorry) |
