Hey,
I'm new on the board and have read a few threads about asian-canadians/americans looking for english teaching jobs in taiwan. Most of the threads seem to be old so I was just wondering about the state of it now? Is it really hard for someone with an Asian face to get a job? I just received my university degree and my english is fluent as any other westerner. I don't speak mandarin that well though, I would say I am a beginning conversation speaker. I speak Cantonese better since that is my dialect.
I might be planning to apply to the major chain schools, just because this is the first time I am out by myself in the "real world" and I am sorta afraid. I was just wondering if these schools ever hire CBC's because I noticed they ask for pictures? Do you guys think I will have a better chance by applying in person while I am there? Thanks! |

The market for Overseas Chinese teachers has improved dramatically since the Taiwan Ministry of Education banned white and black people from teaching in schools regardless of qualifications or nationality.

Chain schools are a good way to start your career in Taiwan. More established ones such as HESS and Kid Castle are usually under less pressure to hire any particular type of teachers in order to please the parents. So stick to them and I bet you'll be quite safe. |

Why not use a chain school?
Everyone else seems to be in agreement in that they are good places for newbies to start out. Maybe you would like to take a moment to outline why chain schools should be avoided, as if you don't then it is highly likely that everyone will just disregard this piece of unsupported advice. |
