I plan on teaching abroad for one school year (I'm a secondary ed English teacher, and I've requested a leave of absence already). With a Master's Degree, I've come to the conclusion that Korean unis are the places to shoot for, but others recommend int'l schools.
Sounds good. The only problem? The recruitment sites for international schools suggest that most schools want 2-year commitments. Anybody have any experience or knowledge about this? Would it be worth signing up for job fairs, recruitment services, etc if I can't make this commitment? (As with public schools here in the States, I understand there is a certain time right before semesters begin wherein desperate schools have to fill vacancies, but that doesn't seem like something to realistically expect.)

The stats: Master's in English, 4 years secondary ed experience (English), no TEFL of any sort. Oh-- 35 years old, single male. I'd prefer to work in Asia (or a Spanish-speaking country). Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks, ladies and gents.

Hi. I think you mentioned it in your post....Schools will be eager to fill positions....I think that it will not be a problem for you....I don't think all IS's will require two years, and those that do, can waive that if they need someone and you have the credentials and experience. My suggestion to you is focus on Asia and not Latin America. Asia pays better.
I have been investigating all of this for months now.
Good luck,
