Okay so I expect it is Clark who will give me a response but what gives? What happened to the website which used to be such a great source of information?
I can pre-suppose your response. Websites need to make money. A lot of time and effort needs to be spent on creating and supporting these websites.
So why doesn't this website rely on advertisers to support the website like others? If you need to check on a recruiter or school then by all means do so. But where is the helpful advise given to those who are unsure of their position?

I agree Ki....i found it tough to find information online about many schools, and even harder to find information that might be considered "advice" or "recommendations" about which schools may or may not be reputable...
One main reason that I began lurking and eventually posting at Dave's is because of how often it is visited by experienced teachers, and the intelligent conversations that actually go on here...it has helped make my mind up about Taiwan, and i'm far more excited to arrive now, than i was even 1-2 months ago...
I just hope everything here continues to be as awesome as I've found it to be...and who knows, maybe one day we'll have some type of ranking system built into Dave's like they have at bushiban.com....
a guy can dream cant he?

I have been proud of buxban to provide a service unmatched before in Taiwan. But for reasons at least for now, I am not unable to understand how we are to be satisfied with our friend and his help to us.

if the was due to my misspelling of "intelligent" i apologize...
otherwise, i dont see why you dont think this way? there have been many people that have been answering many questions, and providing advice to "new posters" like myself, and to me, those are intelligent and valuable things i have taken away from this site.... |

Big Wally have you checked out Forumosa. I grew to dislike after a year, but you may find it interesting and useful.

Thanks scout...
I do like that site as well! I have been lurking there for some time, but it seems that this site is updated on a more regular basis....although once i'm in Taiwan i may find that using both will come in handy...

Buyer beware, that's all I can say. I have pretty strong opinions on that bunch, but, like girlscout, I'll just say that I've grown to dislike it as well.
Individually, great bunch of people for the most part. Collectively, a bunch of power-tripping ego-maniacs with a super-inflated sense of purpose.
Okay, so I said a little more. Ban me. |

What's that all about, then? Because we don't pander to your rantings, we are the loons? Yeah, right. |

Anytime you start taking advertising from recruiters and schools, you do open yourself up to some dissent. When you have advertising, you have advertising, you have a responsibility not only to your users but also to your advertisers. This is part of the reason why I haven't accepted any ads other than google ads on my site. I understand why others do, for a decent site, you need to devote 20 to 30 hours a week of your time for basically no money. |
