hi, my name is jrme. i currently live in london and i'm planning to take my celta course in september. my objective is to move to south america and live there for a few years. i therefore have a lot of unanswered questions.
1- Do you reckon the International house of london is a good place to pass my celta diploma?
2- i'm torned between Peru and Venezuela? any tips of how getting a job there?
3- any good website for finding a job abroad, will be quite helpfull as well!
4- finally, i' m a writer and kinda need to bring my laptop with me as all my work is saved in it. Is it safe to bring a laptop to south america?
i think this is it for now! thank you so much in advanced.
all the best

I don't know anything about the job, but Saxoncourt (www.saxoncourt.com) in London regularly recruits teachers for a school in Lima. Worth checking out? |

Oh no, another writer. You are going to be a teacher. Why aren`t you a teacher? Let me guess you are looking for material. |

You've gotta admit that in the wacky world of TEFL there's plenty of inspirational material! |

What was the name of the Tony Parson best seller about an EFL teacher who returned to London after his wife died in Hong Kong? I forget. 31 there is a market out there. How many people have an interest in EFL worldwide? 31, this is the newbie forum. Keep your negativity to the Turkish forum. Don't try and put everyone and their ideas/plans down |

You forgot the classic, what was it called ''Diary of an (Istanbul) Language Teacher,'' written by an Irish tefler in the `80s. The author got out of EFL and is/was a writer and broadcaster in Ireland. The teachers in the book lived in ''the coffin'' and the DOS wore leather shorts and did a runner with the students` summer school fees. There is a memorable piece about how they all got into TEFL with the author saying that Seamus slipped from being a state school teacher to a supply teacher to doing tutoring to doing language school work to finally ending up doing EFL in Ist. You used to be able to get the book from Robinson Crusoe but I am sure it is out of print now. |

thank you for the first reply i got which might be quite helpfull!!
but more help is always welcome, so if anybody can enlighten me on my previous question that would be great!!
in responce to 31, i am not becoming an english teacher adroad for materials, i have plenty as it is thank you very much! i mentioned that i was a writer purely to underline the fact that i need my laptop and to know if it was a good idea to bring it with me. which is a question i still didn't get a reply to!! writing is important to my life but is not my reason for going abroad. u can have more than one goal in life, u know! i'm quite surprise that i got an answer like yours as i was (based on recommodation) expecting to find helpfull people ready to share their experience to newbies like me on this specific forum! i'm therefore quite dissapointed but i'm not loosing hope. i'm sure other menber will be able to advice me rather than to criticise me. |

A laptop, like any other item of value, is much more likely to be stolen in a poor developing country. If you need to take a computer with you, start with the assumption that it may well be stolen at some point.
- Do backups often and keep them in a separate, safe location.
- If a cheap used laptop will do, go buy a used machine and take that instead. |
