I am from Canada and I will be going to school in Lyon, France within the next couple of months to study French for a year at the University. I would like to take an EFL course in August so that I can teach part-time but now I am totally confused! I have no idea what kind of course to take. My background: although I have no degree as yet, I have several years of nursing school under my belt along and have done health teaching as a part of the curriculum, I also have several years worth of business experience. I have decided to just transfer my credits and is working towards a Psychology degree through Athabasca Uni (a highly reputable and accredited distance based school in Canada). What would be the best direction to take: a CELTA, Trinity or just any ol' I-to-I/other EFL course? I know that people have asked questions, but for someone who will be in France for a year and settling in UK afterwards what is the best option?

CELTA is most recognized the world over. That said, it is expensive and can be rather stressful (it is a VERY intensive course). You should take a look at Jeff Mohamed's site for more info

Just a cautionary note:

If you do a CELTA and decide that you want to (or have to) go back to Canada, and want to do an MA in TEFL or Applied Linguistics, you'll likely get no credit at all for having done the CELTA. In fact, if you go to Ontario, you would have to first do a one-year TESL certificate at a university (when I did mine, there was one person who had done a CELTA in the UK and given nothing for it) and then apply for the MA in Applied Lingusitics after that.
