Anybody dealt with this guy?

Chris Ryall
Placement Manager
The China Teaching Network

They are communicating with me all the time and they SEEM to have their act together, they promise lots of support and back-up ( Rolling Eyes I know, I know).
I'm just a little leery about dealing wiht recruiters, although after the bullsh*t I've put up with this past year by 'going it alone', a safety net might not be a bad thing!

I was thinking your Post is about a Network of teachers...
...relating to sharing good ideas for effective teaching...

What's the Website for this group?

Sorry 'bout that, false advertising eh?
I can't find a web site for them but just e-mailed them a moment ago and asked for an address and a list of current teachers e-mail addresses that I can contact to verify some of their claims.
We'll see what happens...

I used China Teaching Network to get my job, after a recommendation from 2 different people who were happy with the service. I sent Chris Ryall an email with my cv and certificates and he contacted me the next day offering me my current job. I made my arrangements with the help of a travel agent in Brisbane recommended by Chris and was here within 3 weeks. The salary was good by agency-first-job standards - 7000 RMB.

The only problem was that when I actually arrived here I found out that he had referred me to a completely different agency - Helen group based in Hangzhou - and I had no idea that I was in fact employed by Helen group, not China Teaching Network. There were some hiccups, and I put my foot down about the contract. Would not sign for a year, as they wanted me to.

Anyway, things have worked out ok and I'm now independent and have received a number of job offers (ironically, less money. But the hours are shorter. Kindergarten hours are 25-30 per week. Uni only 14-16)

So, Chris Ryall is probably not the worst agent in the world. But your marketability is affected by your qualifications, whether you use an agent or go freelance. Certainly for your first job, anyway.
