If this seems familiar, it's because I had a post about the subject a few months ago but it appears to have been deleted. A higher education institute in Cheboksary (the beautiful capital of beautiful Chuvashia) is looking for a few native-English speaking volunteers to help out at it's annual "American Village" camp (originally organised three years ago by Peace Corps volunteers) in late June and early July. No pay and, unfortunately, no visa support (so you have to be already in Russia) but food, accommodation and road/rail transport costs provided, to say nothing of the pleasure of spending a few weeks in beautiful surroudings with wonderful people). You don't have to be American and teaching experience isn't essential (formal English teaching is only a small part of the agenda and there are plenty of Russian teachers of English to help with that) but it helps if you like and are able to relate to kids (ages 10 - 17); I was roped in on a couple of occasions but I'm a crumbly, and I think it would be better if the volunteers were spry enough to kick a ball without suffering cardiac arrest. For more info, apply directly to Yelena Vasilievna Sukhova, Kafedra Innostrannikh Yazikov, Institute Turizma i Servisa, ul. K. Marksa 50, Cheboksary, Chuvashia, Russia 428000 (tel. 8352 39 54 15; e-mail [email protected]) or to me. Thanks. |
